To compare which technology displays better colors, we first need to understand their core color generation principles. CRTs generate colors by bombarding phosphor coatings with electron beams: each pixel is composed of red, green, and blue phosphors, and the intensity of the electron beam controls the brightness of each phosphor, thereby mixing different colors. This technology can achieve relatively natural color reproduction, but it is limited by the physical structure, and there are shortcomings such as uneven color distribution and narrow color gamut.
In contrast, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) achieves color display through the self-luminous characteristics of organic materials, which is the core advantage of its superior color performance. For
full color oled display, two main technical approaches are adopted: RGB pixel independent emission and white light + color filter. The RGB method uses organic materials with different energy gaps to emit red, green, and blue light respectively, and mixes countless colors by adjusting the current intensity of each sub-pixel, achieving higher color purity and a wider color gamut than CRTs.
Compared with CRTs, OLEDs have obvious advantages in color display. First, OLEDs have a wider color gamut, which can cover more color ranges in nature, making the displayed colors more vivid and realistic. Second, OLED pixels are self-luminous, with no backlight, so they can achieve true black (pixel extinction), which enhances color contrast and makes bright colors more bright and dark colors more deep. In addition, OLEDs have faster response speed, avoiding color blurring during dynamic display, which is an advantage that CRTs cannot match.
Even in full color oled display arduino applications, OLED’s superior color performance is fully reflected. Arduino controls the current of each OLED sub-pixel through simple programming, driving the full color oled to display rich and accurate colors, which is more suitable for creative electronic projects and smart devices that require high color quality. As a pioneer in
custom OLED display, we integrate these core technologies into R&D and manufacturing, proving that OLED is far superior to CRTs in color display performance.
