How Does OLED Create Different Colors?

How Does OLED Create Different Colors? 1
The key to OLED generating different colors lies in the electroluminescent properties of organic materials and the precise control of light emission. OLED works based on the electroluminescent phenomenon: when an electric current is applied, positive charges from the anode and electrons from the cathode migrate to the emission material layer (EML) and recombine to form excitons. When excitons return from an excited state to a ground state, they release energy in the form of light, and the color of the light depends on the energy gap (band gap) of the organic material used.
To realize full color oled display, two main technical approaches are adopted. The first is the RGB pixel independent emission method: each pixel of the display is composed of three sub-pixels that emit red, green, and blue light respectively. By selecting organic materials with different band gaps—materials with small band gaps emit red light, medium gaps emit green light, and large gaps emit blue light—we can obtain the three primary colors. By adjusting the current intensity of each sub-pixel, countless colors can be mixed, achieving full-color display with high purity and wide color gamut.
The second approach is the white light + color filter method, which uses organic materials to emit white light first, then filters the white light through RGB color filters to obtain the three primary colors. This method simplifies the manufacturing process and avoids uneven aging of different color pixels, which is widely used in some full color oled display products.
For full color oled display arduino applications, the above principles are equally applicable. Arduino controls the current of each OLED sub-pixel through simple programming, driving the full color oled to display rich colors, which is widely used in creative electronic projects, smart devices and other scenarios due to its simplicity and flexibility. As a pioneer in custom OLED display, we integrate these core technologies into R&D and manufacturing, providing high-performance full color oled display solutions for various fields.
